Microseeps maintains superior technical assets to apply in any small or large scale application. Microseeps maintains field sampling and mobile laboratory capabilities with the support of a NELAC-certified comprehensive environmental laboratory. A unique asset discussed later is an FID that allows Microseeps to see light (C1 - C4) hydrocarbons at a detection level 200 times lower than standard FIDs. This capability, combined with superior study design and review capabilities makes Microseeps a unique and valuable partner in the effort to sequester carbon.

Microseeps’ trained field personnel and geochemical experts are available to assist in collecting and interpreting geochemical data.  Our staff is a resource for your project team, providing technical assistance and guidance when needed.

Sampling Services

AppleMark Microseeps’ field service technicians are available to develop and implement a customized subsurface sampling program to meet the specific applications and methodologies deemed appropriate for each individual site. Microseeps’ methods are intended to provide the most reliable results for your project needs.

Mobile Laboratory

Microseeps has the capability to bring laboratory analysis to the field. Using both screening tools and their mobile laboratory, Microseeps’ personnel can design a field testing program to specifically to meet the needs of a particular site.

AppleMark
Microseeps owns and operates three mobile laboratories.  The labs may be configured with the proper instrumentation to meet the specific needs of the project.  Our trailer based labs operate from electricity supplied by the client at the site, while our truck lab can operate from either an on board generator or from a plug in source.  The benefits of mobile laboratory services are:

  • Immediate analysis ideal for parameters with limited holding times
  • Real-time results provide flexibility in decision-making
  • Less expensive than expedited fixed laboratory analysis

This lab is ideally suited for analyses of soil gas samples by static headspace.  Instrumentation includes:

  • Hewlett-Packard™ Automated Headspace Sampler.
  • Hewlett-Packard™ Gas Chromatograph with FID/ECD.
  • Microseeps Light Hydrocarbon Gas Chromatograph.

Gas Analysis

Microseeps is best known nationally and internationally for its expertise and capabilities in a large group of niche methodologies for characterization of groundwater geochemistry and hydrocarbon vapors. Microseeps’ niche analytical methods are documented and have been reviewed by several state agencies and the USEPA.

  • Each method includes all QA/QC that would be expected from promulgated USEPA methods.
  • Microseeps’ detection levels are the lowest in the industry

Microseeps is also a full service environmental laboratory certified nationally under the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP). Our capabilities extend to volatile organics, semivolatile organics, metals, and a large list of wet chemical methodologies.

Light Gas Analysis

Microseeps is particularly capable with regard to analytical capability for the light gases including methane, ethane, propane, butane, ethene, propene, acetylene, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen.

All of these gases can be determined from a single sample. Microseeps has developed and built  a unique flame ionization detector for the analysis of light hydrocarbons.   Our detection levels for the light hydrocarbon gases, is < 10 ppbv.  This is approximately a factor of 200 times more sensitive than commercial detectors.

Microseeps can achieve PQL’s for ethane and ethene of 25 ng/l in groundwater.  This is two orders of magnitude lower than can be achieved on commercial FID’s.    At many sites, levels of ethene or ethane are below the usual 5 – 10 ug/l detection limits of FID’s used by other laboratories, thus their data for these samples is reported as all < 5.0 ug/l.  Data reported at the lower limits may lead to better conclusions and identify subsurface conditions not detected through typical anlaysis procedures.  These groundwater based methods could be very useful in areas of shallow groundwater.
